Faced with the unending killings by shooting of Muslim sheikhs in the country by suspected elements of the rebel Allied Democratic Forces, Haji Nsereko Mutumba, the spokesman of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, wonders why a government that has defeated the notorious Joseph Kony-led Lord's Resistance Army, has failed to quash ADF. When asked about the rampant killings of Muslim clerics and the recent police raid on mosques, Mutumba said Muslims are very apprehensive about police's tendency of blaming the ADF before investigations are done, every time a cleric is gunned down.
From the killing of Sheikh Abdulkarim Ssentamu in 2012 to Maj Muhammad Kiggundu on the first day, the IGP said it’s ADF killing people. If you rooted out Joseph Kony and other fighting groups, why is it hard to root out ADF that you say is continuing to kill people? In the aftermath Mosques at Nakasere and Kiwatule were raided and religious norms violated. Police did not see any wrong doing.
Whenever there is any killing, a Muslim is guilty even before investigations. After the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kawesi police concluded that it was ADF even before investigations, latter they arrested Mrs Ampire and Nansubuga together with their children, toddlers of the very tender age of three, four, five, 10, 11 and 13 who had no connection to ADF, despite that they were ruthlessly tortured but were not charged.
Meanwhile In 2019, Justice Lydia Mugambe Ssali released Yusuf Nyanzi, Jibril Kalyango and Yusuf Mugerwa on bail, but they were immediately rearrested by security operatives and later deposited at SIU in Kireka. They were released 19 days later by the High Court Judge Henrietta Wolayo after police had slapped them with a new charge of belonging to a terrorist organisation, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a charge they deny.
